Top Five: DIY Projects

Sunday, September 29, 2013

I'm a huge fan of DIY projects - I try to post many on my blog but there's just not enough time to get them all done. Working on DIY projects is a way to escape for me and just think of nothing. Really. It's  like a mini vacation… without the drinks with tiny umbrellas...

Here are my Top 5 Must-Do DIY projects:

1. Stencil Hardwood Floors

Baroque? Damask? French script? Zigzag, maybe even some text. I could go on and on with ideas on what to stencil unassuming and beautiful hardwood floors.

2. Upholster a Headboard

How sweet would it be when a guest stays at your house & asks where you got this amazing headboard with such a bold, wonderful pattern? Well, I did it myself!

3. Decoupage a dresser

This one I think would be fairly easy. It's just one clipart, instead of decoupaging a million images in one piece. Step one would be to find a dresser with good bones at a flea market, refurbish, look for a fabulous clipart & decoupage away.

4. Install a Light Fixture

I am love this Wakefield Chandelier from Pottery Barn from a while back. It seems like a great use of old book pages, menu or play bills that mean something to you.

5. Make a Trompe l'oeil

The art technique of creating an optical illusion, making two-dimensional materials look three-dimensional is gaining popularity again (so glad the modern versions are so much simpler!). The image of the headboard above may not be fully tricking your eye, but I just totally fell in love with the image! I love this idea and may eventually do something like this in Kate's room. How fun.

What are your top five DIYs you want to tackle?
