How To: Organize Your Art Supplies

Thursday, August 27, 2009

These are my kids' art supplies. While I do have an art room, many times Jack & Kate seem to want to color or create while I finish up dinner or work on my blog (!). So I like to be able to travel around the house with our supplies, and this system works out great. Really, though, you could use this for any type of crafting: jewelry making supplies, scrapbooking, polymer clay, whatever.

There are plenty of pockets to accommodate crayons, scissors, painting supplies, you name it.

Plus, it helps keep things organized (you know how I feel about organization, right?). Each item has it's own little pocket. Plus you can store larger items in the middle.

What did I use? Easy to find... and inexpensive too... recognize this?
These buckets can be found right by the front door of any Lowe's or Home Depot for around $2.50.

Then just add one of these:
Look for it by the tool belts - it's called a "bucket jockey" and it's made to hold all sorts of tools and is filled with pockets just the right size for scissors, pens, whatever. These run around $10, so really for about $12 you can have your own portable art system to pull out any time the need to create hits you...

  5. This is terrific! I saw your photo on Pinterest yesterday and went out today to buy supplies. I think this could be the answer to our organizational woes where art supplies are concerned.

I made an addition (that increased the price a bit) but is making the bucket even better for my clan. I'll write it up and post on my site with a pingback to you. :)

I have been looking for an idea for storage and transportation of art supplies for our cub scout den. This is PERFECT! I am going to ask all the parents to round up their loose and extra supplies and donate them to the den. Then I can throw them all in this and bring it to each meeting. Thank you!
